Child Safety Tips For Summer

Memorial Day marks the start of summer! Celebrate safely this weekend and all summer long; use these tips to protect your children

Keep children and pets away from the grill area by declaring a 3-foot “kid-free” safety zone around the grill.

When you are watching children, don’t be distracted by phone calls, text messages, reading or talking to others, especially around water.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, almost three-fourths of all fatal boating accident victims drowned – 84% were not wearing a life jacket.

Ducklings Found! Now living happily in Selah!

You may recall the story below last week. Well good news!

A reader contacted us and said a friend had recovered 12 ducklings. Well, after some research it appears that these could possibly be our missing ducklings. They were found crossing 40th Avenue without adult supervision and there were 12 of them. Exactly the same number that were rescued. The rescuer stopped her car and bravely gathered the ducklings up before some speed demon came racing down the hill. They are now happy residents of a farm in Selah. Take a look at the picture. Thanks to Michele Davis for reporting this heroic rescue.

I love happy endings, don’t you?

Here’s the original story….

Donald and Daisy, North Star Lodge’s resident Mallard Ducks, magically appeared back at the North Star Lodge pond without their twelve ducklings.  We fear the worst for them however; our resident bird expert tells us they will probably work on another batch right away.  If this is the case then we will try to find a way to transport them to a safe pond nearby.

We can’t help ourselves, we’re nurturers by nature!
