Belonging Through Ballet

Ballet is known for its artistic and graceful movements, spinning and dancing around on the stage.  But for children at Children’s Village it is that and much more. For one little girl in particular, ballet gives her a sense of inclusion and belonging. Taylor never felt a part of a team until she be began ballet. She especially loves that the other kids are unique in their own way but at the same time are just like her. Before Taylor came to the first ballet practice with Children’s Village this spring,  she talked about not wanting to do it because she knew she would have to be in her wheelchair for the first time.  When she arrived for practice there were two other kids in wheelchairs and Taylor was thrilled. She knew she wasn’t going to be alone and realized that the beauty of ballet could be presented by anyone no matter their ability.

“what a fantastic experience I had with all of the prenatal classes offered through Memorial.”

I am just wanting to drop a quick note and let you know what a fantastic experience I had with all of the prenatal classes offered through Memorial. I took just about everything that was offered, including prenatal yoga for the last 6 or 7 months of the pregnancy, the breastfeeding class, baby basic, the childbirth classes on Thursday nights and the infant cpr/first aid course.

All of the classes were so beneficial and I learned many valuable ideas and skills. As a teacher at Davis High School who works with many teen parents, I will be communicating with my students the tremendous benefits of the classes and knowledge shared in the classes to help them through the process. 🙂

My mom and my birth coach, as well as myself were very pleased with the services at Memorial.

Most of all, I have to tell you that my labor and delivery were TREMENDOUSLY positively impacted, more than anything else, by the prenatal yoga classes. This was my first baby, and I am 37 years old, and I was able to have her with almost no drugs. I was able to breathe my way through the contractions and all of those months of positively imagining one contraction passing and the next coming, like waves, helped me do so well. I was amazed! The breathing, concentration, meditation, body awareness and stretching were PRICELESS to me through the process.

My mom and my birth coach, as well as myself were very pleased with the services at Memorial.

From our Facebook page: “If it wasn’t for this hospital, I wouldn’t be alive.”

“If it wasn’t for this hospital, I wouldn’t be alive. When I was 4, I had a very bad seizure and I was dying but this hospital did everything they can to keep me still alive like I am today and now I am in great shape. I am 14 years old now and I still have never forgotten why I’m still alive because of the help I’ve received from this hospital. It really means a lot to me and my family. Thank you.”
