Dr. Regina Benjamin launches Surgeon General’s Every Body Walk! campaign to promote walking and walkable communities
Walking is a simple form of physical activity that can be done almost anywhere. Through the Surgeon General’s Every Body Walk! campaign, Dr. Regina Benjamin will be promoting walking and walkable communities as a way to help Americans meet physical activity recommendations.
Regular physical activity helps people of all ages protect and improve their health. Walking is currently the most commonly reported form of physical activity among U.S. adults. Encouraging Americans to add walking to their daily routine has enormous long term health benefits and can help reach the physical activity goals outlined in the 2008 Physical Activity Guidelines.
If you’re in the DC area, we invite you to join Surgeon General Regina Benjamin to kick off the Surgeon General’s Every Body Walk! campaign with a series of one-mile walks on Capitol Hill during the month of May.
Walks will be held May 1, May 15 and May 22 from noon to 1pm. Walkers will start and finish in front of the Hubert H. Humphrey Building, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 200 Independence Ave SW, Washington, DC.
